The historic towns of Hampshire and Surrey have a large number of buildings in brick, stone and timber-frame and some of the best street panoramas in the country. The buildings range from cathedrals, abbeys and medieval wool warehouses to the series of mid-19th century forts constructed as a defence against possible invasion by the French.."
