"From earliest times, the people of Surrey have been at or near the heart of England's history. Surrey's strategic position, between London and the South Coast ports, has served to involve its people in events of national significance.

This stimulating and highly readable history describes the developments that have shaped it through the years. These include the Roman and Viking invasions; the bloody Battle of Ockley in AD 851; the signing of Magna Carta at Runnymeade; and bitter conflicts during the English Civil War.

Surrey's varied soil and its network of rivers have always made it an attractive place to live and work in. With a wealth of fascinating detail, the book recounts the story of Surrey's different communities, whether they lived in Neolithic huts, Norman castles, Tudor palaces of the sunny suburban villas that grew up during the expansion of the railway era.

Published in 1994 and reprinted in 1998. 192 pages with black and white photographs and pictures.

The book has been signed by the author. It is in good condition.
