Harold Sutton Palmer was born in Plymouth in 1854. He trained for two years at the South Kensington Schools, where he won a gold medal. The illustrations in this book speak for themselves the writer feels it no easy undertaking strike bass chords in prose that may worthily accompany these high notes of Surrey's fame. But did his best towards pointing out its charm of varied formation and surface, displayed upon the course of excursions made in several directions, to bring in all the chief features. Authoring as well as the artist, both at least long journeys in this choice county that gives to many an adopted son, the work has been Labour of love. The moral enforced at once by and pencil is that few great cities are so lucky London in having at its back-doors a playground, pleasure-ground, and garden-ground of manifold interest and beauty.

The book was published in 1934, by A & C Black, and is 255 pages with 32 illustrations.

The dust jacket is very scruffy, but the pages inside are all completely readable.
