"The round frock is the protective outer garment now known as the smock. It was worn largely by countrymen rather than town-dwellers from at least the 18th century until the early 20th century, though its use became unusual in the later 19th century. The Surrey round frock is of interest because it is of a different type from that found in the rest of the country and may represent the original type of round frock, which has evolved differently elsewhere."

Taken from 2003's Surrey Archaeological Collection. 16 pages with black and white photographs.
